KEITH EDWARDS wins the EPA/GWR regional singles competition and GIOVANI DiAGOSTINI the plate. 2018

The Northey Arms Boules Club (NABC) swept the board in the first EPA Regional Singles Finals to be held at the recently extended Northey Arms Petanque venue. The day was blessed with great weather and a strong field of 28 entries, from across the GWR region. Most of the Northey entries made it through the early rounds, culminating in Keith winning the Singles title, and Giovani winning the Plate competition. Keith now progresses to the national finals. A very good day was had by all. Great thanks to Pete for organising the event for NABC and big thanks to Matt and his team from the pub, for there help in making the day a success.

“Dixon Doubles” – Final Winners 2018
Congratulations to Corinne and Thierry who are the first winners of “Dixon Doubles” Trophy. They beat Pete and Bob in the final on Friday in two very competitive games that saw excellent displays of shooting and pointing from both sides, in a close contest. The tournament has been running over the last three months with eleven teams playing, in two leagues and the winners meeting in the final. All the games have been close and enjoyable – well done all
Brunel League 2018 – Solid Start by the Northey team – Wednesday 25 April
The Northey Team started their Brunel league matches with a solid home win against the Wheatsheaf from Corston. The Northey were making their debut in the top division of the Brunel League, having gained promotion at the first attempt last year. On a cold night the Northey started well, with wins in the doubles for Keith/Kevin and Steve/Graham but they lost the other doubles match. Both of the first triples were won (Keith/Steve/Kevin and Bob/Pete/Graham) giving an unassailable 4.1 lead. The Northey then fell away and lost both of the other triples, in close games. The final result was 4 (73) to 3 (53), to the Northey. Well done all, a good start to the season.

Northey Spring Cup 2018 – Sunday 22 April
The first major Trophy event of 2018 saw thirty club members competing for the prestigious Spring Cup, sponsored by BathAquaGlass. This is a good warm up for the new boules season and gives a chance for novices to play in their first competitive event. On a bright and dry day, the draw teamed experienced and novices together in a combination of triples and doubles. After four rounds the top scorers played each other in the final. A close and well fought final saw Lesley Holley and Keith Edwards narrowly defeat Heather Mahoney, Liam Holley and Pete Dixon. Heather was the surprise star of the day playing in her first competitive event and helping her team to the final. An enjoyable day for all with great and close games throughout. Well done all and particularly the winners.
